John Curtis Estes (August 8, 1944 – March 13, 1988) better known as John Holmes, John C. Holmes or Johnny Wadd (after the lead character in a series of related films), was one of the most famous male porn stars of all-time, appearing in about 2,500 adult loops, stag films and porno feature movies in the 1970s and 1980s, including at least one gay feature film and a handful of gay loops. He is best known for his large penis (the exact length of which remains in debate), his involvement in the brutal Wonderland Murders in 1981 and his death from AIDS.

He was the subject of a long article in Rolling Stone magazine in 1989 and a feature length documentary, the inspiration for the character Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights and the subject of the biopic Wonderland.
Early life
Born in Pickaway County, Ohio, as John Curtis Estes, John never knew his father, a railroad worker. John's mother, a devout Southern Baptist, married Ed Holmes a few years later and changed the family's surname to Holmes. His new stepfather proved to be a violent alcoholic who frequently beat John, the youngest of five children.

At 16, with the permission of his mother, Holmes enlisted in the United States Army and spent three years in Germany in the Signal Corps. Upon his discharge, Holmes moved to Los Angeles where he worked in a variety of jobs, including occasional homosexual prostitution. It was during his stint as an ambulance driver that he met a nurse named Sharon Gebenini. They married in 1965.
Porn career
For the next two years, Holmes and his wife lived quiet, uneventful lives. Holmes found work as a forklift driver at a warehouse, but the rigors of driving in and out of a frozen warehouse caused severe health problems, leading to a pneumothorax (lung collapse) on three separate occasions. While recovering from his illness, Holmes frequented a club in Gardena, where a man in the bathroom encouraged him to do pornography. Initially during the late 1960's, Holmes did magazine work and an occasional 8mm loop, keeping his work in porn a secret from his wife.

While the ad copy for his first few dozen loops rarely named him, those that did usually gave him a name that was nowhere near what his real first name was. In fact, one early "Swedish Erotica" brochure from 1973 has five Holmes loops listed, each of which has a different name referring to Holmes even though it is obvious from his facial features that "Fred", "Dave", "Rudy", "Big Dick" and "Stan" are all the same person.

With the success of Deep Throat (1972), The Devil in Miss Jones (1972), and Behind the Green Door (1973), porn had become chic although its legality was still hotly contested. Holmes was arrested during this time for pimping and pandering, but he avoided prison time by becoming an informant for the Los Angeles Police Department.

In 1973, Holmes' career began to rise with a porn series built around a private investigator named Johnny Wadd. By 1978, Holmes was reputed to be earning as much as $3,000 a day as a porn actor. He starred at a time when an attractive personality could compensate for a lack of other aesthetic characteristics and a certain amount of acting ability was still demanded of porn stars on a level that is not seen in today's porn films.

While his vocal inflection was arguably somewhat higher in pitch than one would expect for a "hard boiled private dick", most film critics and fans agreed that Holmes did demonstrate enough acting ability to keep the character of "Johnny Wadd" from being merely a banal, one-dimensional parody of Raymond Chandler's creation, the tough and uncompromising private detective Philip Marlowe.

He stole luggage from the baggage claim at LAX, sold things he purchased with his wife's charge cards, broke into cars. Somewhere around this time, John got involved with alleged drug dealer Eddie Nash, who had an unsavory reputation. According to John's wife Laura: "He was an awful man... John told me he used to leave the bathrooms without toilet paper, then offer the young women cocaine if they'd lick his *** clean."

In June 1981, four of John's acquaintances raided 8763 Wonderland Avenue, Eddie Nash's house. They forced Nash at gunpoint to open a floor safe, which yielded more than $100,000 in cash, $150,000 in jewelry, eight pounds of cocaine, a kilo of heroin, and 5,000 quaaludes. Nobody died that night.

When the gang returned to their Laurel Canyon hideout, Holmes was waiting for them. He freebased some of the coke and then they cut him in. He received a paltry $3,000 for having unlocked Nash's back door the night before. A few days later, Nash somehow caught up with Holmes and persuaded him to confess. Then they all went to Laurel Canyon and brutally murdered everyone in the hideout.

John was tried in 1982 for his involvement in the Wonderland slayings. Holmes was defended by attorney Earl Hanson, who later represented serial killer William G Bonin.

Died of AIDS in March 1988. Diagnosed HIV-positive in 1986, but continued to make films without informing any of his partners of his status.

Claimed 14,000 *****, though the actual number is probably in the low thousands. Starred in 2,000 porno films.

How big was John Holmes' wang?

I've seen the movies, read the book, and it was real. Several women have written about his massive manhood, and they all couldn't have been lying.
All the movie hype said he had a 14 incher.10 inches.he had said his girlfriend would not date any man unless he had 12 ins. so he dumped her because he was not going to cut off an inch for any woman.

He was well endowed but no where near the -10 inches-13 or 14 inches that the video boxes claimed. If you have a basic understanding of human anatomy and of what an inch is (or what a 12 inch ruler looks like) you will realize that these claims were exaggerated....that is just something that most guys do.The "facts" are that there are no facts. People who have worked with him (men and women) have claimed it to be everything from 7-13 inches. So we all have no real way of knowing for sure.12.5 to 16 inches (erect)

Actors - Ron Jeremy


Ronald Jeremy Hyatt (born March 12, 1953), better known by the stage name Ron Jeremy, is a well-known Jewish American porn star and director.

When he entered the pornography industry, he changed his name at the request of his father. Jeremy is referred to as "the clown prince of porn" and "The Hedgehog". He has gained some notoriety for his long penis, reported to be 9.75 inches (24.76 cm) and for being capable of autofellatio (which contributed towards the "Hedgehog" moniker). Born in Flushing, Queens, New York City, Jeremy attended Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in his hometown of Bayside, Queens. He took a B.A. in theatre arts and acted off-Broadway before gaining a master's degree from Queens College.

Upon returning to the US, he began a career in special education, but soon decided to quit and become part of the newly formed 1970s New York porn scene following an amateur appearance in Playgirl magazine - his then girlfriend submitted a nude photo of Ron to the magazine. It was at this point that he decided to take the surname Jeremy (his middle name).

His venture into pornographic movies occurred during the "golden era" of porn (from 1975 to 1983), which was marked by high production values and good quality scripts, with the movies intended for cinematic release rather than for video. However, during this era, the production of adult movies was still illegal. Jeremy left New York for California but he was arrested on two occasions and faced a lengthy jail sentence before being reprieved as a result of the Hal Freeman precedent in the United States Supreme Court of 1988.

Despite his short, overweight, and unattractive appearance, he has appeared in nearly 2,000 shorts, loops, and feature films to date and has directed a further 100. He claims he gets more work when he is a bit on the heavy side, and this is the reason why he does not try to lose weight. He also claims to have had sex with over 4,000 women. He has said that he finds every woman beautiful regardless of their age, race, or creed, and this is what makes him a very versatile porn actor.

He has appeared in music videos such as Date Rape (Sublime). He also has had small roles in a number of mainstream films: Detroit Rock City, 54, Ronin, Orgazmo, The Boondock Saints, American Virgin and Killing Zoe along with various Troma films such as Terror Firmer. He also appeared on the second season of the reality show The Surreal Life, was featured on a special 'news makers' recording of the game show The Weakest Link, made a cameo animated appearance as the host of the "Woody Awards" in a memorable episode of Family Guy, and cameoed on Chappelle's Show as well as Mind of Mencia and Bullshit!.

Jeremy was the subject of a 2001 documentary film, Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy.

He is listed at the #1 spot on the "List of Top 50 Porn Stars of All Time" by Adult Video News magazine.

I'm not sure if this question is directed at the woman who frequent

The bottom line when it comes to watching porn, male fans
like particular male pornstars who they wish they could be

which puts him above Rocco. Yeah he did some fag movies but so what,

North was nominated best male by AFW fans more than anyone except maybe

2. Rocco Siffredi
Rocco put the heat back into porn after Vivid tried to take it out.
The guy looked like he stepped out a GQ magazine or was a model.
His good looks and big dick gave women something to look at while
still delivery the perversity for the guys. As North peaked and
started to slow down Rocco burst onto the scene. Stagliano really
put him on the map and showed him how to make good gonzo stuff. Rocco

is funnier than North which has made him a favorite. Tom doesn't stand
out like North and Rocco instead he's more laid back and more like the
average guy who watches porn. Tom is also a funny guy. He was also a

4. Ron Jeremy
I can hear the groans now. Regardless, Ron is probably 2nd only to Byron in
number of movies. Today he is gross and disgusting but during 80s he was
more trim, was very funny in some otherwise bland films, and had a big

Okay, here goes.

1) Either Jamie Gillis or John Leslie - easily the two best male actors in
porn. Jamie is probably the better actor, but sometimes he is just a little
too creepy for me.


2) The other of Jamie/John. After this it starts getting difficult.


3) Probably Tom Byron, excepting his "long hair" period. As the perpetual
juvenile early in his career he was terrific, always giving one the impression
that he couldn't believe he was being paid for what he was doing. After his
"thug" period, he seems to have matured into a respectable guy, but I don't
understand why he associates with Extreme.


4) Eric Edwards - another guy who could really act - almost as good as Leslie
and Gillis. The more I see of his stuff, the more impressed I am.


5) Joey Silvera - again, early in his career. A decent actor who seemed to be
having fun. Later he became "hard" and jaded.


6) Harry Reems - the one true male comedic talent in porn. Puts people like
Ron Jeremy and Jack Baker to shame, since he can be funny without being a
stereotype (and unlike Jeremy, he doesn't have to ham it up.)


7) Mike Horner - what can I say. Sure, I hate his silly looking face when
he's ejaculating (although to be honest, it's realistic - I just would rather
not see it) but he's another one that is a pretty good actor, although he's
really type-cast in the "nerd" role.


8) Kevin James - the poor man's Tom Byron.


9) Sean Michaels - might well rank higher. He's one of the classier actors,
and has avoided both typecasting and stereotyping.


10) TT Boy - I hate him when he's in charge, but with the proper director he
can be quite good. What he needs in somebody to keep his misogynistic
tendencies in check - I think he's at his best when he's being directed by Jim
Holliday.


Well, thats the best I can do right now. I'm sure it will change, however,
Maybe I shou'd change my sig to reflect this list? Nah - most of these people

He played some nasty egomaniacs earlier in his career (I remember
"Sound of Love" in particular) and he was good at it. I don't know why
he got typecast the other way.

I hesitated to respond to this post because I'm one of those guys who
believe that while the guys are necessary in a scene .....they also at
the same time are just not that mportant on my scale of things in a
porn vid. May sound crazy.....but hey....that's just my feeling.

Having said that mouthful, here are a few guys I begrudgingly

Did an interview with Derek and Romaine over at Sirius Out Q Radio last night.
